CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A staff member at The Citadel has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse involving a cadet at the South Carolina school.

Citadel vice president John Dorrian told news outlets Wednesday that Kenneth Boes turned himself in to face charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and transferring beer or wine to a person under the age of 21.

Dorrian said the school received an allegation of sexual abuse in May and asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. Dorrian said Boes was reassigned to a position without contact with students when the allegation was made.

Boes has worked at the military school since 2002 as part of the Teach-Advise-Coach team.

He is being held in the Charleston County jail. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
