MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he is shocked that fellow Republican Gov. Scott Walker is refusing to visit any of the state’s prisons.

Vos made the comment during an Aug. 10 interview on a liberal talk show on WFAW-AM hosted by former Democratic Rep. Andy Jorgensen. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported on the comments Tuesday.

The interview was three days after Walker told reporters he saw no value in visiting state prisons and had no plans to do so, even if re-elected to a third term.

Vos says he was shocked with Walker’s position and hopes he changes his mind. Vos says he valued a visit he made to the Sturtevant prison in his Assembly district.

Vos says he hopes Walker does prison tours to hear concerns of workers there “but that’s a choice he has to make.”
