President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani clarified his weekend comments on the “truth” Monday morning, saying he was referring to “he said, she said” situations.
Mr. Giuliani said the interview would pit Mr. Trump’s word against former director James Comey, and both are espousing different versions of the truth.
My statement was not meant as a pontification on moral theology but one referring to the situation where two people make precisely contradictory statements, the classic “he said,she said” puzzle. Sometimes further inquiry can reveal the truth other times it doesn’t.

During a now-viral interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Mr. Giuliani said Mr. Trump should not meet with Robert Mueller and risk perjury. He reasoned that the president would be judged on “somebody’s version of the truth” instead of the facts.
When pressed, Mr. Giuliani said, “Truth isn’t truth.”
On Monday, Mr. Giuliani said “sometimes the truth is clear” and argued Mr. Comey’s actions during the 2016 elections undermine his credibility.
“His disgraceful performance with the FBI makes him the last person who should pontificate on truth,” Mr. Giuliani tweeted.
