President Trump said Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller is “looking for trouble” by dragging out the investigation and accused his team of trying to influence the election.

Mr. Trump argued that Mr. Mueller’s team ignored “real corruption” from Democrats, who he called “a national disgrace.”

“Mueller’s angry Dems are looking to impact the election,” Mr. Trump wrote.

On Saturday, Mr. Trump confirmed a New York Times report that a member of his legal team, Don McGahn, met with Mr. Mueller. The president explained the meetings were for transparency purposes and slammed The Times as fake news for framing Mr. McGahn as a “rat.”

The report said Mr. McGahn spoke with Mr. Mueller for over 30 hours on a variety of topics related to the Russian investigation, including firing former FBI Director James B. Comey.

Mr. Mueller’s probe into Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election includes looking into possible collusion between members of the Trump campaign and foreign agents. Mr. Trump is also being investigated for potential obstruction of justice.

Mr. Trump had repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. He argued that the obstruction probe comes as punishment for fighting back against accusations of collusion.
