PHOENIX (AP) - A west Phoenix supermarket that was destroyed by a fire last month won’t be rebuilt.

Officials with Safeway say the decision was extremely difficult to make because the supermarket had been at 35th and Northern avenues for more than 30 years.

But they say there are several other Safeway stores in the area that can continue to serve the community.

Employees were relocated to other stores in Phoenix and surrounding areas after the July 11 fire.

Despite a section of the roof collapsing as firefighters fought the three-alarm blaze, there were no reported injuries.
