The top brass at Fox Television Group has assured skittish fans of “Last Man Standing” that they have nothing to fear regarding “Mike Baxter’s” return.
Tim Allen’s popular character won’t be stripped of his conservative streak when the hit show lands at Fox on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. EDT. Fox Television Group CEO and Chairman, Gary Newman confirmed the continuing political status while talking with reporters in Beverly Hills, California.
“[Mike Baxter comes] with a conservative viewpoint,” Mr. Newman said at the 2018 Television Critics Associations’ Summer Press Tour, Fox reported Thursday. “I think of the character as a fairly centrist viewpoint. Of course, that could change during the season, but there are no plans at this time. At its heart, it’s a family comedy. I think that they’re going to tell the same type of stories that they told during its run on ABC.”
Mr. Newman added that at this time producers will not delve into the character’s feelings towards President Trump.
“Last Man Standing” aired on an ABC from 2011 to 2017. Roughly 8.3 million fans were stunned when Disney, ABC’s network’s parent company, pulled the plug on the highly successful show.
Disney executives denied that there was a political agenda behind their decision.
“It was really quite successful for ABC,” Mr. Newman added. “It was their second most successful comedy behind ’Modern Family.’ We think it has a lot of legs. We’re really looking forward to having it on our primetime.”
