CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - First-year students are getting ready for the fall semester at Clemson University this weekend.

School officials say teams of volunteers are helping first-year students move into residence halls on Saturday.

Clemson kicks off its academic year on Monday with University Convocation in Littlejohn Stadium. Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are expected to gather for remarks from Tom F. Chapman. Officials say Chapman graduated from Clemson in 1965 and is retired chairman and chief executive officer of Equifax Inc.

Clemson says Chapman and his wife, Karen, gave a $4 million gift to establish an endowment and create the Thomas F. Chapman ’65 Distinguished Professorship in Leadership. Cumulatively, the Chapmans have given $6.3 million to Clemson to further the university’s mission and vision.
