PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s unemployment rate ticked down to 4.1 percent in July.
The state Department of Labor and Training says the rate was two-tenths of a percentage point lower than in June.
The state’s unemployment rate is two-tenths of a percentage point higher than the national rate of 3.9 percent. It’s three-tenths of a percentage point lower than a year ago, when it was 4.4 percent.
Data released by the department show the state’s economy continued improving in July, with a gain of 1,200 jobs to an employment level of 503,900.
July marks four consecutive months of gains, totaling 5,400 jobs.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo says the state was still sluggishly recovering from the recession four years ago. She’s calling for continued investments in job training and economic development.
