Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said Friday that “it’s kind of weird” that the president’s critics are “so obsessed” with him.

“Why is everybody so obsessed with the president of the United States that they can’t even begin or finish a sentence without using his name five times. It’s kind of weird,” she told reporters outside the White House.

The comment came as Mrs. Conway criticized John O. Brennan as a pundit who is “paid for his opinion now.” She defended the president’s decision to strip the former spy chief’s clearance by saying he didn’t deserve the professional courtesy.

“He’s a former CIA director that has since then has shown no interest in helping this administration further the national security interest of this country,” she said.

President Trump said he is considering revoking clearances of other vocal critics including former FBI Director James B. Comey, fired FBI agent Peter Strzok and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

CNN reporter Caitlin Collins retweeted a video of Mrs. Conway’s comment.

“Yea why are we talking about the leader of the free world so much?” Ms. Collins wrote.

Mrs. Conway fired back, tweeting, “[This] may hurt feelings or come as shock, but not everything is about the media.”

Ms. Collins argued it was “unusual” to say that people shouldn’t talk about Mr. Trump, because of the very fact that he is the president.
