BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The union representing nurses at the University of Vermont Medical Center is urging a state board to delay approving the medical center’s budget until nurses have a new contract.
The request on Wednesday comes as the union and hospital this week resumed negotiations following a two-day nurses’ strike.
Higher wages remain a sticking point for the contract.
The union says the medical center provides high salaries for top executives to “attract and retain the skilled workforce necessary to provide high-quality and high-value care” but doesn’t extend that logic to providers and support staff.
The Green Mountain Care Board is reviewing hospital budgets and says it will not delay the process for the UVM Medical Center. The board chairman says the panel hopes negotiations continue and a resolution is reached.
