BOSTON (AP) - A man named William Shakespeare has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a man outside a Boston barbershop where the victim had taken his 4-year-old son for a haircut.

Shakespeare was sentenced Monday following his conviction Friday on first-degree murder and firearms charges.

Prosecutors say the 30-year-old Dedham man and 31-year-old Marcus Hall argued inside the barbershop in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood on June 14, 2016. Shakespeare left, but returned with a gun and shot Hall outside while the child was still inside.

Shakespeare fled but was captured in New York City in January 2017.

In a victim impact statement, the boy’s mother says her son is still traumatized when he gets a haircut.

Shakespeare’s attorney said after sentencing his client remains “adamant that he didn’t shoot Hall.”
