Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery could miss the first six games of the season as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, the NFL Network reported Monday.

Jeffery has missed all of the Eagles’ offseason, including training camp, after he underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. The Eagles placed Jeffery on the Physically Unable to Perform list — and he could stay there by the start of the season.

If Jeffery is still on the PUP list when the season begins, the wide receiver would be forced to miss the Eagles’ first six games of the year.

Not having Jeffery could be a setback to the defending Super Bowl champions since the 28-year-old led the Eagles’ wideouts in yards last year. But Philadelphia still has a variety of weapons, such as tight end Zach Ertz and wideout Nelson Algholor, for quarterback Carson Wentz.

The Redskins, meanwhile, don’t play the Eagles until December, so this news would not affect the teams’ matchup directly.

The Eagles open the season Sept. 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.
