The Trump administration slapped sanctions on two top government officials in Turkey Wednesday over the continued house arrest of an American pastor working there.
The White House announced that the U.S. is imposing sanctions on Turkey’s minister of justice and minister of the interior over their country’s treatment of the Rev. Andrew Brunson.
“We’ve seen no evidence that Pastor Brunson has done anything wrong,” said press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Mr. Brunson had been jailed for about 18 months on terrorism-related charges. Turkey released him from prison on house arrest last week.
