SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Latest on allegations of sexual misconduct against Lake Barrington Republican Rep. Nick Sauer (all times local):

Republican state Rep. Nick Sauer has submitted his resignation amid allegations that he posted nude photos of an ex-girlfriend on social media.

Sauer filed a resignation letter Wednesday with the House clerk’s office.

Politico reported that a Chicago woman filed complaints with the Chicago Police Department and the legislative inspector general against the first-term lawmaker from Lake Barrington. The woman claims that the 35-year-old Sauer posted explicit photos of her on Instagram to lure other men into sexual conversations.

Sauer said in his letter that “my ability to fulfill my obligations as a state representative … will be affected by the distraction of addressing these allegations.”

Sauer did not return phone, emailed or text messages seeking comment.

Sauer was a member of the House Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Task Force. He was seeking re-election in November.

Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin says a GOP state lawmaker will resign amid allegations that he posted nude photos of an ex-girlfriend on social media.

Durkin issued a statement saying Rep. Nick Sauer is resigning Wednesday after a published report alleging he set up an Instagram account under the Chicago woman’s name and posted explicit photos.

Politico reported that the woman filed complaints with Chicago police and the legislative inspector general against the first-term lawmaker from Lake Barrington.

The 35-year-old Sauer is a member of the House Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Task Force and is seeking re-election in November.

He did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Durkin’s statement labeled the allegations “troubling” and added, “We should allow the proper authorities to conduct their investigation.”
