Former President Barack Obama endorsed Rep. Jacky Rosen’s bid for the Senate in Nevada, putting his stamp on one of the most watched Senate races of the 2018 election cycle.
Mr. Obama on Wednesday rolled out a list of 81 candidates he is backing in races at local, state and federal across the country — though Mrs. Rosen, who is trying to unseat Republican Sen. Dean Heller, was the only Senate candidate to receive his blessing.
“This November, the future of the Affordable Care Act and the Supreme Court are at stake — and our health care is more important than political games,” Mr. Obama said. “That’s why I’m with Jacky Rosen. And that’s why I’m asking Nevadans to join her, and to help take back the Senate this November.”
Mr. Heller is viewed as the most vulnerable Republican incumbent up for re-election. Democrat Hillary Clinton carried the state in the 2016 presidential election.
Before rolling out his endorsements on Wednesday, Mr. Obama had for the most part stayed on the sidelines since the 2016 election. He did, however, reappear over the weekend when he and former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, a possible 2020 presidential contender, showed up together at a bakery in Washington.
Mr. Biden has aggressively campaign with Democrats running in various contests across the country.
