Nick Kyrgios withdrew from the Citi Open in Washington with a hip injury Wednesday.

The Australian entered the week the No. 17 ranked men’s singles player in the world and the No. 5 seed in the men’s draw at the ATP Tour stop in Rock Creek Park.

Kyrgios’ injury also forced him and partner Jeremy Chardy to withdraw from the men’s doubles competition. Their first-round opponents, the local duo of Frances Tiafoe and Denis Kudla, advanced by walkover.

In the singles’ draw, Jason Kubler, also an Australian, was named the “lucky loser” who will take Kyrgios’ place in the main draw. Kubler lost his final qualifying round earlier this week.

The injury comes one day after Caroline Wozniacki, the top seed in the women’s singles draw, also had to quit the tournament with an injury to her right leg.
