ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland’s leading teachers union is getting a new president.

Cheryl Bost will become president of the Maryland State Education Association on Wednesday. Bost is an elementary school teacher from Baltimore County. MSEA says she was named teacher of the year in 2003 in part for her work to create a summer camp for her disadvantaged students.

She served as president of the Teachers Association of Baltimore County from 2003 to 2011. She was the MSEA vice president from 2012 to 2018. MSEA has about 74,000 members. Based in Annapolis, it is the largest union in Maryland.
