NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Students have started a new school year at a suburban Indianapolis middle school more than two months after a classroom shooting wounded a student and a teacher.
Students and staff were greeted Wednesday by newly drafted Indiana Pacers player Alize Johnson and other athletes as they entered Noblesville West Middle School. Thirteen-year-old Ella Whistler and science teacher Jason Seaman were among those returning for classes.
A 13-year-old boy allegedly shot Whistler and Seaman after officials say he entered Seaman’s classroom May 25 with two handguns.
New security measures, including more surveillance and police officers, are in place at the school about 20 miles (30 kilometers) north of Indianapolis.
A referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot would provide Noblesville Schools with more funding for school safety staff, equipment and other purposes.
