The Washington Nationals made two roster moves Saturday but neither one involved outfielder Adam Eaton, who left the home opener Thursday after five innings after tweaking his ankle during a slide into home.
The Nationals called up infielder/outfielder Matt Reynolds and selected the contract of catcher Jhonatan Solano, both from Triple-A Syracuse of the International League.
At the same time catcher Miguel Montero, signed prior to this season, was placed on the paternity list and lefty reliever Enny Romero was designated for assignment, according to general manager Mike Rizzo.
Reynolds was acquired from the New York Mets earlier this year and was one of the last cuts during spring training. He played in 115 games for the Mets the previous two seasons.
Solano has played in 43 Major League games during parts of three seasons. He spent part of the 2012 and 2013 seasons with Washington and played with the Marlins in 2015.
Romero pitched in 55 games out of the bullpen for the Nationals since he was acquired from Tampa Bay prior to the 2017 season. He has a 3.90 ERA and a record of 2-4 during that time. His fastball has reached the upper 90s but his control has been a problem while in Washington.
The Nationals are slated to host the Mets at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday. New York won the first game of the series 8-2 on Thursday.
Syracuse lost its season opener 6-5 on the road Friday to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the top farm club of the New York Yankees, as the hosts scored five runs in the last of the ninth.
Reynolds and Solano did not play in the game for Syracuse.
