FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A former treasurer for a union representing public employees in several southeastern Massachusetts communities has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $60,000 from the union.
The Bristol district attorney’s office says 55-year-old Pamela Almeida pleaded guilty to a larceny charge. The Brockton Enterprise reports that Almeida was a clerk for the Easton Planning Board and treasurer for Southeastern Public Employees Association - a union representing various public employees in Easton, Mansfield, West Bridgewater and Milton.
Prosecutors say the Raynham woman regularly drafted checks payable to herself from union funds, stealing more than $60,000 from a fund used to pay for youth scholarships and contract negotiation counseling.
She was ordered to repay the union money and got three years of probation.
