FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky’s teachers union is urging educators to go back to their schools on Monday and talk to elected legislators directly.
News outlets report the Kentucky Education Association’s more than 400 representatives to the KEA Delegate Assembly unanimously supported the call. The KEA statement was posted on its Facebook page Friday.
Public employees don’t have the right to strike under state law.
Most of the state’s school systems are scheduled to be back in session Monday after a spring break that was preceded by widespread school closures on March 30. Many teachers participated in sick-outs that day to protest a surprise pension bill that lawmakers approved after 10 p.m. the night before.
