Dustin Johnson may be the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, but he’s as prone to mistakes at the Masters as anyone.

What set Johnson apart Friday was the way he recovered from an unfortunate missed birdie putt on the par-3 16th hole. After his downhill putt from the fringe missed the corner of the cup and kept rolling to the far end of the green, Johnson had a much lengthier 44 feet to save par.

Johnson shot a 1-over 73 in the first round but made his third birdie of the day on 18 to card a 68 and move to 3-under for the tournament. He was still four strokes behind leader Patrick Reed, who was 7-under at that point and still playing.
