MARSHALL, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say an Arkansas parolee police had been searching for on an outstanding warrant has been fatally shot by a Department of Correction officer.

Arkansas State Police said Friday it was investigating the fatal shooting of Daniel Allen Yielding, 23, of Paragould following a manhunt in Searcy County. Searcy County Sheriff’s Deputies and state correction officers began searching for Yielding Thursday based on an outstanding warrant for parole violation and reports of Yielding fleeing a local residence.

Deputies and correction officers were searching Friday when Yielding was spotted in a wooded area with a knife. Police say Yielding was shot after he refused to comply with orders to drop the knife and moved toward a correction officer. The Department of Correction said the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
