MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Madison alderwoman wants Secretary of State Doug La Follette’s job.

State election records show Democrat Arvina Marie Martin registered to run Thursday.

La Follette is seeking his 11th term as secretary of state. Nomination papers are due June 1. If La Follette and Martin both collect at least 2,000 valid signatures they would square off in a Democratic primary Aug. 14. The winner would advance to the Nov. 6 general election.

Jay Schroeder is the only Republican to announce a run for secretary of state so far.

The 77-year-old La Follette tripped over a downtown Madison bike rack while collecting signatures April 22. He said he sprained his wrist and bruised his knee. He said Monday he’s feeling better and isn’t having any trouble walking except on stairs.
