SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Salt Lake City lawyer asked a federal judge for a deadline extension after he says a 107-99 Utah Jazz playoff loss prevented him from finishing his work on time.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports U.S. District Judge Bruce Jenkins on Friday granted Brian King’s motion in a medical benefits case, ruling that there was “good cause” for the delay.

King says he had taken a break Wednesday from writing a memo to watch the Jazz play the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 in the first round of the NBA playoffs. At about 9:15 p.m., in the third quarter of the game, Utah held a 25-point lead. But then, Kings says, disaster struck.

The Thunder erased the deficit and defeated the Jazz.

King says the loss led to a “submission of a written product that was twice as long and half as strong” and 18 minutes late.
