BOSTON (AP) - Supporters of several proposed ballot questions are about to enter the final stage of their efforts to place their measures before Massachusetts voters in November.
The Legislature is not expected to take action on any of the proposals before Wednesday, so under state law initiative petition campaigns can begin on that day to collect the 10,792 additional signatures needed to secure a spot on the ballot.
The proposed new laws include a gradual increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour; a reduction in the state sales tax; mandatory paid family and medical leave for workers; and tighter nurse-to-patient ratios in hospitals.
Lawmakers on Beacon Hill could continue to press for a compromise on any of these measures up until the final signatures are submitted in early July.
