DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit-based real estate developer has acquired an office building in the city’s New Center area and three nearby parcels for future projects.
The Platform says it will upgrade the 8-story, 240,000-square-foot (22,296-square-meter) Lakeshore Global building. Existing tenants are expected to remain in the building which currently is 60-percent occupied.
Architect Albert Kahn designed the building in 1908 for Ford Motor Co.
The Platform also owns and is restoring the iconic Fisher Building in the New Center area. It also is building apartments along West Grand Boulevard and rehabbing historic buildings on Woodward Avenue for retail and residential use.
The company says it is committed to mixed-use, transit-oriented development in the greater New Center area which is a few miles north of downtown Detroit.
