ZURICH (AP) - FIFA says Secretary General Fatma Samoura has been cleared in an ethics case brought with “no substance” linked to the 2026 World Cup bidding contest.
A complaint was made to FIFA’s ethics division, claiming Samoura failed to declare she was a relative of former Senegal player El Hadji Diouf, who is an ambassador for the Moroccan bid in the contest against North America.
FIFA says ethics committee investigators “conducted a preliminary review of the facts. After this analysis it became clear that the allegations brought forward had no substance and that no such family link exists between Ms Samoura and Mr Diouf.”
FIFA says ethics officials “decided to close the case.”
The World Cup decision will be made on June 13 in a vote by up to 207 football federations.
