Wizards forward Otto Porter will miss the remainder of the Washington’s first-round series against the Toronto Raptors after undergoing a lower leg fasciotomy, the team announced.
The news is damaging to the Wizards, who trail 3-2 in the series and face elimination with a loss Friday.
>”The procedure was required after clinical examination confirmed the diagnosis of compartment syndrome (a critical increase in pressure resulting from an injury) and was necessary to prevent permanent damage to the muscles in the leg,” the team said in a statement. “It was performed by Wizards Director of Medical Services and Orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih at MedStar Health at Lafyatte Centre.”
Porter has had a quiet playoffs, averaging 10 points per game. Coach Scott Brooks said they needed more from Porter offensively to win the series.
But Porter will be out indefinitely, and forward Kelly Oubre will start in his place.
The possibility of Porter missing at least Game 6 first came up Thursday when Brooks said the forward was “banged-up” following the team’s Game 5 loss.
The Wizards had listed Porter as questionable with a left leg contusion and soreness.
Porter has dealt with multiple nicks and injuries throughout the season, ranging from his hip to suffering a calf injury April 10 against the Boston Celtics. The latter caused him to miss the team’s regular season finale against the Orlando Magic.
