OPINION:
Sen. Lindsey Graham suggested a Nobel Peace Prize may be in President Donald Trump’s future, if the whole North Korea-South Korea denuclearization deal pans.
That’s certainly a more certifiably award-winning act than the one that won Barack Obama his Nobel in 2009 just a few months after he took over the White House.
Obama was commended for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” for ringing in a “new climate” with his anti-nuke rhetoric and for stoking peace with the Muslim world. In other words: for yada yada nothing in particular.
But Trump?
Well, Trump’s got the two Koreas’ leaders to the talking table on denuclearization, as well as on formally putting an end to the Korean War. And he’s managed to propel a somewhat chastised and humbled North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, forward and onward and onto South Korean territory, and into an embrace with his declared enemy, President Moon Jae-In. That Kim stood on South Korea soil is historic in itself.
That a denuclearizing deal may manifest would be the type of historic that rings in a new era.
And Graham’s called it right: “Donald Trump convinced North Korea and China he was serious about bringing about change. We’re not there yet, but if this happens, President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize,” he said, during an interview on Fox News reported in The Hill.
Quite right to that. Moreover — not a fake, politically motivated Nobel like the one handed to Obama. If all pans according to the best laid plan, Trump could very well be in the running for a very real, very meaningful, very public recognition of his — get this, anti-Trumpers of the world — diplomatic finesse in boldly fueling a peace plan between North Korea and South Korea.
Oh my, my, how the leftists and elitists would gasp.
