LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles police commander and an LAPD sergeant have been arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and driving while intoxicated.

Police in suburban Glendale say Cmdr. Nicole Mehringer was taken into custody on the public intoxication allegation at around 1:45 a.m. Friday.

Sgt. James Kelly was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Other details weren’t immediately released.

Both officers were released Friday morning.

The Los Angeles Times says Mehringer is one of 20 commanders who report directly to Police Chief Charlie Beck.

The paper says she and Kelly didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment but the chief said he was “extremely concerned about the allegations.”
