Will Kanye West be a featured speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2019?
Stranger things have happened.
The annual conference of conservative thought leaders, elected officials and media personalities is presented by the American Conservative Union and the event often features off-the-beaten-path speakers from popular culture.
In the last several years the CPAC stage has featured Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, Rick Harrison from Pawn Stars, Hercules star Kevin Sorbo and, in 2011, reality TV star and real estate mogul Donald Trump.
It was Trump’s speech in 2011 that launched his presidential ambitions. “If I decided to run, I will not be raising taxes, we’ll be taking back hundreds of billions of dollars from other countries that are screwing us, we’ll be creating vast numbers of productive jobs, and we’ll rebuild our country so that we can be proud,” Mr. Trump said at the time.
Punctuating the thought with a nascent notion. “Our country will be great again.”
So now that West has created a pop-cultural apocalypse by declaring his allegience with Trump, can a CPAC speech be in the offing?
