NYON, Switzerland (AP) - Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone faces a touchline ban if his team plays in the Europa League final because of his conduct at Arsenal.
UEFA says Simeone faces separate charges of insulting a match official and “improper conduct.”
UEFA’s disciplinary panel will judge the case next Friday. The two charges mean Simeone could be facing a two-game ban that would go beyond the semifinals in Madrid next Thursday.
Simeone was sent from the dugout in the first half of Atletico’s 1-1 draw in London on Thursday.
He watched the rest of the first leg in the grandstand, where banished coaches are prohibited from communicating with their coaching staff.
UEFA also charged Atletico for fans throwing objects. Arsenal has been charged with fireworks being lit.
