BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials say a suspect wanted in a shooting that killed one and injured three others in Southern California 30 years ago has been arrested in Arizona.

The Bakersfield Californian reports 54-year-old Paul Sanchez is accused of opening fire on four people in May 1988 near Wasco. Investigators at the time identified him as a suspect, but couldn’t locate him.

The newspaper says detectives in February learned he was living under the name of Francisco Sanchez and was possibly living in Phoenix. He was arrested there on Tuesday and is awaiting extradition to Kern County, California. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.

He could face murder and attempted murder charges.

Officials say Sanchez had used several different names and birth dates over the past three decades.
