LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - University of Kansas officials confirm that the school’s former chancellor is earning the same salary after stepping down and becoming a special adviser.
KU officials told the Lawrence Journal-World that Bernadette Gray-Little began her position as a special adviser in July. She announced in September 2016 that she would step down as chancellor after the 2016-17 school year.
KU spokeswoman Erinn Barcomb-Peterson said the salary of about $510,000 is the same amount she earned during her final year as chancellor.
“Chancellor Gray-Little was incredibly helpful during the leadership transition last year and continues to provide invaluable counsel to various KU administrators on a variety of topics,” Barcomb-Peterson said.
Gray-Little declined to comment on her role and referred the newspaper to KU or the Board of Regents.
“The Kansas Board of Regents, to which the chancellor reports, set the terms for the chancellor’s departure,” said Barcomb-Peterson.
Barcomb-Peterson said the board’s terms of departure said that Gray-Little’s new role consists of “helping the new chancellor, at his or her request, become acquainted with the university’s unique programs, its several campuses, and other areas.”
KU Medical Center leader Douglas Girod was announced as chancellor on May 25, 2017. His salary as chancellor is $550,000, according to his agreement with the Kansas Board of Regents.
