SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A former Utah corrections officer was sentenced for sexually assaulting a woman after fleeing from the sentence for more than 10 years.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports William Lawrence on Monday, 12 years after the assault, was sentenced to zero to five years in the Utah State Prison.
Lawrence was convicted of using his badge to solicit sex acts from the woman, but he disappeared in late 2007.
He says he fled to Hawaii with his girlfriend and his daughter because he feared he would be killed in prison.
Lawrence was hired at the Utah Department of Corrections in Draper in June 2005 and was fired in April 2006, the day after the prison was informed of his arrest.
He was found in Hawaii after his apartment was burglarized and police found his fingerprints. He had created a fake identity.
