BOSTON (AP) - The Massachusetts Senate has paid nearly $230,000 to a law firm it hired to investigate whether former Democratic Senate President Stan Rosenberg broke Senate rules following sexual misconduct allegations against his estranged husband Bryon Hefner.
The Boston Globe reported Monday the Senate made the payment to the law firm of Hogan Lovells this month. The Senate announced in December that it was hiring the firm.
The payments come as Hefner is due to make his first court appearance.
Hefner is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of sexual assault, distributing nude photos without consent and criminal lewdness. He was indicted by a grand jury last month.
Hefner’s attorney has said his client intends to plead not guilty and contest the evidence and witnesses against him.
