PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence Public Library will expand its adult education and employment services using a new federal grant.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed says the library, in partnership with Chicago Public Library, Los Angeles Public Library and World Education, Inc., will receive about $550,000 to test and disseminate innovative adult education and workforce development library practices, such as learning lounges, mobile learning and learning circles.
The Rhode Island Democrat says the three partners and six selected pilot libraries will implement new approaches to study how they work.
The federal funding will be supplemented by nearly $680,000 from partner organizations.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services administers the grant.
Reed says public libraries are a key access point for people looking to increase their literacy and computer skills to find gainful employment.
