SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah’s rate of job growth is top in the nation for March.
The state’s Department of Workforce Services reports that employment in March grew by an estimated 3.3 percent over the year before, higher than any other state in the country. That adds up to 48,000 new jobs this March over last year.
Private sector jobs grew even faster, at 3.7 percent over last March. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that’s tied with Oregon for the highest rate in the country.
Utah’s unemployment rate for March remains unchanged at 3.1 percent.
Nationally, the unemployment is 4.1 percent, unchanged from February.
Department of Workforce Services chief economist Carrie Mayne says the state’s economy can likely continue expanding for months to come.
Utah’s job growth was driven by increases in the trade, transportation and hospitality sectors.
