MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Democrat Randy Bryce says he raised $2.1 million over the first three months of this year as he campaigns to take on Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Bryce reported Monday that he ended March with nearly $2.3 million cash on hand.
Bryce is being challenged for the Democratic nomination by Janesville teacher and school board member Cathy Myers. She has not yet reported her fundraising totals for the quarter, but has trailed Bryce in the past.
Bryce is a union iron worker whose announcement video highlighting his blue collar background and introducing his nickname “Iron Stache” gained him national attention. He’s raised about $4.75 million to date.
The Democratic primary is Aug. 14.
Ryan has held the 1st Congressional District seat in southeast Wisconsin since 1999.
