Jim Riggleman is getting another shot as a manager in MLB.

The Cincinnati Reds fired Bryan Price on Thursday after a 3-15 start, announcing Riggleman would take over on an interim basis. Riggleman served as the Nationals manager from 2009-2011, but quit 75 games into the 2011 season because ownership would not offer him a contract.

Last season, former Washington Times’ staff writer Todd Dybas caught up with Riggleman, who said he still wanted to manage.

Riggleman left the Nationals amid a stretch where they won 11 of 12. He was fed up with the club after they refused pick up his option for the following year.

“I would challenge anybody in the world to say they enjoy managing more than I do,” Riggleman said. “We can’t have a contest. I can’t prove it. But, I love to manage. And that’s why I went down to the minor leagues and managed. I loved managing in Pensacola and Louisville. I knew I may never manage again when I made the decision I made. But, you know, it’s just a decision you make at 58 that you don’t make at 28.”

Riggleman has been with the Reds organization since 2012, managing in the minors before being named as the team’s bench coach.

The Reds will be Riggleman’s fifth stint as a manager, overseeing the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners and the Nationals. He is 662-824 during his career.
