ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city official has demanded a lie detector test for public works employees to determine who damaged a truck.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports Itta Bena Alderwoman Mildred Miller suggested the test during a Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday.

A report from Public Works Director Ronald Starks was given to the aldermen. It says a front wheel came off the city truck and that it was apparently driven by an employee after it was damaged.

Miller says a worker could have been hurt. She also told the board that workers say they do not know what happened to the truck.

Board Attorney Willie Perkins says the test would be expensive and ineffective.

The board ultimately requested a detailed report from Starks and recommended disciplinary action for whoever caused the damage.
