BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A former major at a Louisiana prison faces another federal trial in the beating an inmate who was shackled.

The Advocate reports that prosecutors filed notice last week saying they intend to retry 41-year-old Daniel Davis, of Loranger. He worked at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

In January, Davis was convicted in Baton Rouge federal court of writing a false report, falsifying records and lying under oath about the 2014 beating. Jurors acquitted Davis on one charge of violating the inmate’s rights. They didn’t reach a verdict on a second charge in the beating, and the judge declared a mistrial on that count.

Davis maintains his innocence.

The inmate had fractured ribs, a punctured lung and a dislocated shoulder. Three former Angola guards have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.
