NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A group of Yale University students have been arrested for trespassing following a protest at the school’s financial aid office.

Students refused to leave the financial aid office as they demanded Yale stop requiring students on financial aid to make a mandatory contribution totaling thousands of dollars.

The New Haven Register reports the requirement consists of a student job contributing from $2,800 to $3,350, and for upperclassmen to pay close to $6,000 a year. A university spokesman says more than half of undergraduate Yale students receive a need-based Yale scholarship.

Students say that while the cost may not hold them back from attending the university, it takes away from them participating fully in the Yale experience. Students received citations for simple trespassing.
