HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) - An official from Louisiana State University has been selected as the next president of Michigan Technological University.
The Board of Trustees of the school in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula announced Friday that Richard J. Koubek will be its 10th president. Koubek is executive vice president and provost of Louisiana State University. He is scheduled to begin his tenure at Michigan Tech on July 1.
Glenn Mroz has been president since 2004 and plans to return to the faculty in summer.
Koubek says Michigan Tech “is a technological university in its finest sense, where it is a leader in technology for sure, but also in the implications of technology on our environment, on our society, on our humanity.”
Michigan Tech has 7,200 students in Houghton, including 5,800 undergraduates.
