The Washington Wizards have added another point guard just before the playoffs.
The Wizards signed Ty Lawson on Thursday, the team announced. Lawson, 30, hasn’t played in the NBA this season, but spent last year with the Sacramento Kings.
In his prime, Lawson was an above-average point guard with the Denver Nuggets. He averaged 14.2 points and 6.6 assists per game in six seasons with the Nuggets. But the two had a falling out, with the Nuggets trading Lawson to the Houston Rockets after a series of DUIs.
Lawson, a 2009 first-round pick, never fit in Houston, and has bounced around the league, playing for Indiana and Sacramento. Before joining the Wizards, Lawson spent this season in China.
The Wizards now have five point guards on the roster. They begin the first round of the playoffs Saturday against the Toronto Raptors.
