Funding secured for new bus line from Bothell to Everett

SEATTLE (AP) - A Washington transit project can move forward after securing $43 million in federal funding.

The Seattle Times reports that until Monday, the future of the proposed bus line from Bothell to Everett was unclear after President Donald Trump suggested cutting transit grants from his 2018 and 2019 budgets.

Congress passed a budget last month that instead increased funding for bus and rail infrastructure.

The new 12.5-mile (20-kilometer) Swift 2 route will connect Bothell with Mill Creek, South Everett and Paine Field airport.

The route will have 13 new buses running every 10 minutes during peak hours, bus-only lanes, traffic lights that give buses priority and a new transit center.

Transit officials expect it will carry about 4,000 riders daily when it opens in summer 2019.
