BALTIMORE (AP) - Hundreds of people have gathered in Baltimore to protest the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man, Stephon Clark, by police in Sacramento, California.
Karim Amin is president of the Muslim Social Services Agency and was the main organizer of Sunday’s event. He told the Baltimore Sun it was a chance to harness the power of the tens of thousands of Muslims in town for the annual Islamic Circle of North America conference over the weekend.
Clark was killed March 18 by two police officers responding to a call of someone breaking into car windows. They yelled that he had a gun before shooting, but it was only a cellphone.
A private autopsy released by his family showed Clark was shot from behind.
His death has prompted an outcry in Sacramento and elsewhere around the country.
