PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A civil rights group says President Donald Trump’s voter fraud commission has violated federal public records law.
The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2xbnSJ5 ) the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law says members of the Election Integrity Commission have used personal email accounts for official work which violates the Presidential Records Act. The nonprofit has an ongoing lawsuit against the commission.
Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap confirmed the commission hadn’t organized federal email accounts when writing to him. The Democrat claims he gave commission members his state-issued government account.
Justice Department attorney and commission lawyer Elizabeth Shapiro has apologized for failing to disclose public records. Many lawmakers have criticized Trump’s unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud. A commission meeting is planned on Sep. 12 in New Hampshire.
