OPINION:
The Americans for Legal Immigration PAC has sent out a statement accusing President Donald Trump of siding with billionaire George Soros on DACA.
This is probably not true.
But it makes for interesting conjecture, just the same.
This is ALIPAC’s statement, given through its organization president, William Gheen: “The media and Democrats can’t take Trump’s base away, but he can by continuing his support for amnesty for illegal aliens, which makes him a liar and a hypocrite that has betrayed his base.”
ALIPAC’s views are understandable. The entire mission of the organization is to oppose amnesty for illegals.
And Trump, by sending out a message through his attorney general that he was ending DACA, while at the same time saying he was giving Congress six months to fix the program — and then tweeting that Dreamers “have nothing to worry about — no action!” — in effect, gave a thumbs-up to amnesty.
He told Dreamers he wasn’t going to deport them.
And ALIPAC described the move as “[Trump’s] unexpected efforts to make DACA Dream Act amnesty permanent in America through legislation backed by Obama, Jeb and GW Bush, [Harry] Reid, George Soros and other globalists,” the Daily Caller reported.
The group went on.
“We are people that donated, volunteered for and voted for Donald Trump because we support the existing border and immigration laws of America,” ALIPAC wrote. “Trump’s recent statements in support of amnesty for illegal aliens is sending shock waves through his base. … Trump is supporting the very same amnesty legislation and policies as his corrupt predecessors.”
Well, while it’s true, that tweeting out a “don’t worry ’bout it” message to DACA recipients is a bit of shocker for Trump supporters who thought he was going to take strong action to dismantle this unconstitutional amnesty program — but calling out the president as a partner to Soros is a bit much.
Trump may have let down his base on DACA. But that’s still a long way away from joining forces with Soros.
